September 11, 2024 — The press conference for the 2024 National Science Popularization Day and the 2024 World New Energy Vehicle Conference was held in Beijing. Key speakers included Pang Xiaodong, Vice Minister of the Science and Technology Popularization Department of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST); Zhang Xuming, Secretary-General of the Society of Automotive Engineers of China; and Wang Xiuhou, Member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Director of the Hainan Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology. The briefing was moderated by Song Yurong, CAST’s spokesperson and Vice Minister of the Department of Publicity and Culture. Over 20 leading national media outlets, including People’s Daily, Xinhua, CGTN, and China Daily, attended the press event.

2024 National Science Popularization Day
The National Science Popularization Day is scheduled to take place from September 15 to 25, 2024. The theme for this year is "Improving National Scientific Literacy and Working Together to Build a Technologically Strong Nation." The event is organized by CAST in collaboration with 21 other departments, including the Central Propaganda Department, the Central Cyberspace Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Key activities include the "Thousand Museums Explore the Future," "Ten Thousand Reports Discuss Cutting-edge Topics," and the "Million IPs for Science Popularization," as well as eight joint initiatives involving science organizations, universities, businesses, and public science centers. Over 100,000 activities are expected to take place, covering 300 regions across 32 provinces and autonomous regions. Hong Kong and Macau will also host nearly 40 special science popularization events.

Key Features of the Science Popularization Day

1. Open Collaboration: This year’s event will focus on enhanced coordination, leveraging platforms like science museums, parks, and schools. Over 300 key demonstration activities will be recommended, and science popularization services will extend to urban and rural areas across China.

2. Science for the Public: The event emphasizes integrating science with cultural, artistic, and tourism activities, featuring science-themed markets, stage performances, and exhibitions. Events will also celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with innovative tech displays and scientific festivities.

3. Online and Offline Integration: The event will also expand its reach through social media platforms like Weibo, TikTok, and Bilibili, creating a digital science popularization experience through videos, online exhibitions, and interactive learning sessions.

2024 World New Energy Vehicle Conference
Set to be held in Haikou, Hainan from September 27-29, 2024, the World New Energy Vehicle Conference focuses on the theme “Low-carbon Transformation and Global Cooperation.” This year’s conference will address global goals and pathways for low-carbon development and collaborative competition in the industry. There will be 23 forums, technical exhibitions, technology awards, and a range of science popularization activities.

The event will feature:

• Main Forums: Three main forums focusing on key issues such as accelerating low-carbon transformation, strengthening global cooperation, and innovation-driven development.

• Exhibitions: Over 60 companies will showcase technologies such as new energy vehicles, electric power systems, hydrogen fuel cells, automotive electronic chips, and charging technology.

• Technology Awards: The "Global New Energy Vehicle Frontier and Innovation Technology Selection" will recognize groundbreaking achievements in the industry.

• Youth Competitions: The conference will continue the "Youth Automotive Creativity Competition," with nearly 9,000 entries from across China, Hong Kong, Macau, and Latin America.

Hainan's Role in the Conference
Hainan’s provincial government has prioritized the successful hosting of the conference. They have established a comprehensive support mechanism, including VIP reception, logistics, and security, while actively preparing for special Hainan events, including discussions on low-carbon and smart transportation. The Hainan New Energy Vehicle International Expert Advisory Committee, established in 2020, will continue to provide guidance on the province's high-quality development in the NEV sector.

Hainan is also planning to leverage this event to promote the island’s green, low-carbon development opportunities, fostering increased interaction between global cities.
